Curriculum That Gives Life

Seaside Christian Academy is committed to preparing our students for whatever God has in mind for them to accomplish in life. Essential to reaching this goal is the early development of a strong and sound foundation both spiritually and academically. Therefore we are very diligent to seek out the best material and teachers we can find. OUR MISSION: To equip children with a biblical and intellectual foundation by providing quality academic instruction based upon the scriptures.

Our educational philosophy is based upon four components: Accountability, Academic Excellence through Discovery, and Missions. We are recognized by the Maryland Department of Education as a non-public school that follows the voluntary Maryland curriculum to accomplish our academic goals.

Many of our children are reading after finishing our preschool, and our kindergarteners can read entire paragraphs. Students using the Abeka curriculum typically score about 2 years ahead of children in the public schools. We are confident you will be well satisfied with the success your children will achieve at SCA.

Chapel

All of our students have a special Chapel Service every week. Local pastors, traveling evangelists, our own school staff and others lead these services. Puppets, skits, preaching, singing and even games might find their way into any given service.

Biblical Worldview Integration

The very existence of a Christian school is to develop critical thinking Christian students by biblically integrating the academic curriculum and having qualified Christian teachers giving the instruction. Helping students to make the connections between the academic content and scripture is one of the greatest challenges of the Christian teacher. SCA is committed to this method of teaching. Helping students to make these connections is at the very core of a distinctively Christian education.

D.O.V.E. Program: (Discover Our Visual Education)

Seaside Christian Academy is fully committed to doing its duty to help the United States to remain at the forefront of technology innovation. The DOVE program's goal is to allow students at an early age to gain exposure to careers in the STEM disciplines (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) and develop skills that will put them ahead of their peers. DOVE offers Aviation/Aerospace Science, Health Professions, and Biz-World classes to the junior high students. These classes are designed to engage, encourage and inspire a passion to solve real world problems enhancing the critical thinking skills of our students.

Technology

Seaside Christian Academy partners with Boston University, University of Richmond and School Technologies to provide a web based computer curriculum which is fully integrated with what the students are learning in their regular classrooms. Our computer teacher and the classroom teachers coordinate their efforts to ensure that the skills and materials learned in computer class are both age-appropriate and relevant to what is happening in the students' other classes.

The entire school is equipped with high-speed wireless Internet, and we contract for additional outside services that make available thousands of animations, video clips and pictures. Our teachers use these resources for their lesson plans, and the students are able to access them for their research projects. The school's server has powerful filtering software to protect your children from the unexpected surprises that can sometimes occur while using the Internet. The teachers all have a laptop for their use, and we have a fully equipped Computer Lab for the students. Parents have access to portions of our administrative software so that they can check the lesson plans, homework and grades for their child.

Athletics

We can take delight in our relationship with God while we play sports when the proper perspective is the starting point of our participation.

While publicly a great sports program can be a valuable tool for promoting Christian education, it can also contribute to an overemphasis on athletics that slowly erodes the fundamental reason we should have for playing sports, which can become an idol to which we offer our time, money, and effort. If an overemphasis starts to happen, our relationship with God will suffer.

We offer sport opportunities to develop a healthy competitive mind-set to students in 5-8 grades who want to participate. Also our participation is contingent upon the availability of volunteer coaches and parent involvement.
